PiHead Tracker

Support

Most problems can be solved in a few steps. Open the topic that matches your situation below. If that doesn't help, write to us using the form at the bottom of the page.

Check the Support Assistant in the app first

The Support Assistant in the right panel of the app checks the connection, the sensor and the game, and shows what's wrong and how to fix it. It works without an internet connection.

Troubleshooting

Click your situation.

The app keeps showing "Searching for device"
  1. Use the cable that came with the device. Some USB cables are charge-only and carry no data.
  2. Plug the device directly into the computer. Front-panel ports and USB hubs can cause connection problems.
  3. Close other tracking programs such as opentrack and apps that use serial ports.
  4. Unplug the cable, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
The app shows movement but the in-game camera doesn't turn
  1. Start the game while PiHead Tracker is running. If the game is already open, restart it; games only look for a tracker at startup.
  2. Enable TrackIR or head tracking in the game's settings (usually under Controls or Camera).
  3. Close opentrack or TrackIR software if it's running. Only one tracking program should run at a time.
  4. If the game's name appears at the top of the app, it's connected. If it says "Tracking paused", press the pause shortcut to resume.
The view slowly moves to one side
  1. Press the recenter shortcut (default Ctrl+Shift+R).
  2. Put the device on a flat surface, click Gyro Calibration in the app and don't touch it for ten seconds.
  3. Set Auto recenter in the right panel to Medium.
  4. If the device came in from a cold place, let it warm up for five minutes and calibrate again.

We explain why drift happens in this article.

Looking right turns left, or the directions are mixed up
  1. Run the Setup Wizard in the app. It measures how the device sits on your headset again.
  2. If only one axis works the wrong way, tick its "Invert" box in the right panel.
  3. If you moved the device on the headset, run the wizard again.
The view jitters
  1. Increase Smoothing a little.
  2. With very high sensitivity, small tremors are amplified too. Bring it down to around 1.0× or try the "Soft center" curve.
  3. Make sure the device sits firmly on the headset.
I have to turn my head too far, or the movement is too fast
  1. Adjust sensitivity with the Yaw, Pitch and Roll sliders in the right panel. At 2.0×, turning your head 45° turns 90° in the game.
  2. Try the "Quick look" preset in the Response Curves window.
  3. If the game has its own head tracking sensitivity setting, check it too; the two settings multiply.
"Windows protected your PC" appears during installation

Windows shows this for newly released apps it doesn't know yet; it isn't a virus warning. Click "More info", then "Run anyway". You can confirm the file is ours with the SHA-256 value on the download page.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask most before buying and while using it.

Which computers does it work on?

Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit). You don't need to install any extra program, driver or .NET. macOS and Linux aren't supported at the moment.

Which headsets can I use it with?

Most headsets with a headband. The setup wizard works out how the device sits on your headset.

How is it different from TrackIR or camera-based systems?

PiHead Tracker doesn't use a camera or infrared light; it measures movement with the sensor on your head. That means lighting doesn't affect it and there's nothing extra on your desk. It tracks the rotation of your head (left-right, up-down, tilt) but doesn't measure positional movement such as leaning forward or sideways. The optional neck model adds the natural position change that comes with turning your head.

Is the app free?

Yes. The app and its updates are free.

Does the app connect to the internet or collect data?

The app doesn't collect or send personal data. It only goes online to check for a new version, and you can turn that off in the settings. The support report is shared only if you copy and send it yourself.

I have opentrack or TrackIR software installed. Is that a problem?

No, just don't run both at the same time. When PiHead Tracker closes, it restores the settings so your games keep using your previous tracking program.

Is there a wireless model?

The current model works over a USB cable, so there's no battery to charge. We're working on a wireless model and share progress on this page.

Do you ship outside Türkiye?

Sales currently take place on platforms in Türkiye. For international orders, write to us at destek@piheadtracker.com.

Can I assign recenter to a joystick or HOTAS button?

Yes. In the app's Shortcuts section, click the button in the Controller / HOTAS column and press the button you want to use. Joystick, HOTAS, wheel and gamepad buttons as well as hat directions are supported.

Is the app available in English?

Yes. It follows your Windows language, and you can change it under Application, Dil · Language.

How do I uninstall the app?

Windows Settings, Apps, PiHead Tracker, Uninstall. If the app is running, it's closed during uninstallation.
